This is a REAL ground-breaking photo. This photo includes no less than: 1 doctor, 2 senior pastors (1 American, 1 Mexican), 1 cheerleader-turned-missionary, 1 drug dealer, and LOTS of amazing friends who have given of their time, money, and sweat to begin building this house and community center. The neighborhood is a buzz with what is happening on our corner, and I literally can't believe it's happening. There has been some serious hard labor that has gone into this project in the last few days, and I am honored to have such a great church and friends who have so willingly been a part of this. Okay, this isn't a photo of me and the girls from Boys Town at the ground-breaking ceremony, but that's because we don't start until tomorrow. Did you catch that? We break ground TOMORROW!!!
Oops! Did I forget to mention here that we FINALLY got the land? It was a long process, but it is all official now!
Tomorrow morning, a wonderful group from my home church, Believers Church, will begin pouring cement for the foundation.
But let me back up about 4 weeks...while I was in Spain with 24-7 Prayer, some amazing friends here began clearing the land and doing the hard work of digging footings so the team could pour foundation this week. Some of the people who helped were boys from the neighborhood! Some were people who had recently been deported from the United States who are trying to earn money to go back to their homes. They gave freely of their time and services, believing that God would take care of them if they chose to trust Him. (Miraculously, chicken and ice cream showed up at their shelter that night, for "the people who helped clear Kelly's land," and we still don't know who it was from!)
